21: Remember the Skylark

Let’s all agree to forget the last six months. Okay? Back to it! Public schools as prisons. Lessons in working the system. Adapting the language of texting into an educational method. Yo, yo, you with the face. Gimme a quarter now.

20: Muskmelon and Watermelon

Anzo is visiting the parents in FL and the memories flood back: games of naked ladies and poop statue, smashing mailboxes, flying side kicks, anger management failures, and a cameo from Mama.

19: For Each Degree of Wobble

Happy New Baktun! Brave hasn’t noticed any changes, unless you count Birkenstocks in the 90s. Though childhood head injuries may also play a part. Anzo learns from dogs, with the help of Haley and “Caesar Chavez,” and flails into the water hitting ear first. Explains a lot.

18: From One To Five

The 80s comedy boom, Eddie Murphy, 5th grade sex ed, sexual awakening, and just a splash of masturbation. A recipe for hilarity.

17: From Guru To Student

Timebinding, how the past speaks directly to the present, influential teachers, cynicism, and laundry. A and B walked into this expecting to talk about Facebook. It’s a testament to their focus and dedication that they never broached that topic. Though they talk about talking about Facebook. Riveting.

16: Imprints of Death

Light, happy thoughts about childhood and innocence and…death. Other breezy issues: Does the universe’s bigness bring comfort or dread? Does avoiding irrational exuberance bring us closer to the truth of reality or deny an element of our human perspective? Some issues with distortion in this one (on Brave’s side). It’s only bad in one spot, otherwise it’s fine. Apologies for that.

Note: Brave says that during Roman triumphs, a eunuch or slave would whisper “This too shall pass” or something like that. According to wikipedia: “The words that the slave is said to have used are not known, but suggestions include “Respice te, hominem te memento” (“Look behind you, remember you are only a man”) and “Memento mori” (“Remember (that you are) mortal”).”

Since it seems I cannot form a complete thought during the podcast, (Brave interrupts) I thought I would write a wee bit.

15: World, Don’t Devour Me

A & B comment on listener feedback. Then, when they get over themselves, they talk about the split loyalties of first-generation kids, fighting wars with skirts, and guitar porn. Plus a quick postmortem on last week’s episode and creating the illusion that everything’s alright. How’s that for bringing the chaos back — no annoying throughline in this one.

14: And Will My Eyes Be Closed Or Open

Even I couldn’t get through this one without either laughing uncomfortably or just feeling sorry for them. A & B lay it all on the table and talk chemtrails, big bang, mathefukinmatics, apathy, and agnosticism. If you don’t yell at your iPod, then you’re either not listening or something’s wrong with you.

13: Humans Are Neither Pure Nor Responsible

It is a virtual guestplosion at SPRT! With two great guests that, along with A & B, actually approach an actual round table. D. makes a repeat appearance while L. joins for the first time. The topics move from shifting social mores (for the better or worse) and adolescent rebellion.

-Changing social mores (ie. cigarette smoking)
-Cigs, rifles, and porn
-Boys and Death
-Youth rebellion and the pendulum effect of conservative/liberal parents and kids

12: Made a Rainbow With My Hand

Back from vacation, it’s just Anzo and Brave this week. Conversation turns to dosing your high school teacher, the 99% (who don’t regret their psychedelic experience), myco propagation, ceremonial sayings in cultures and society, and symbol literacy.

11: Part 3 – Onward Down the Road

The 3rd installment of conversations with G.! Brave has been traveling these past weeks so that partly explains the 3-parter. Plus, anything over an hour with these guys brings certain indigestion, so thank them later for the bite-sized portions.

10: Pt 2 – Transparent And Fuzzy At The Same Time

Part 2 of 3 episodes featuring guest, G.! What to do if you love your family, but your family loves Fox News? Rant about the pacing in Breaking Bad of course. These are the kinds of segues that either make you love SPRT or make you tear your hair out (I’m bald if that hints at anything). Words of the week: Jolt and Mitote. Annoy your friends! Use them both in a single sentence: “Just a few more jolts and there’d be some serious mitote action going on here.” BAM! THUD! You’re welcome.

6: My Souffle! And Other Things Overcooked

If the sun went out it’d be dark, and other profound truisms. Anzo broaches the topic of the solar deity but is rebuffed by Brave who just wants to talk sh** about the Greek people. Real classy, B, real classy. Anzo sold his house! He’s now homeless…er, “home free.” BTW, Brave, even WITH your fabric softener you still stink.

5: Location, Creation, Starvation

Does an artist need to be uncomfortable to kick-start the creative process? Have we finally left behind the romantic idea of the starving artist and entered a new era where middle-class, living-wage artists reign? Where does trauma and tragedy fit into that equation? Anzo regales us with an ode to Jill Engle, the Treasurer of Wood County. Brave wants to perform in supermarkets. They’re both sooo subversive.

4: Is It the Fourth? BOOM! Blister Juice!

Is there no room anymore for true pyros in contemporary 4th of July celebrations? A and B reminisce about Fourths past. Plus they discuss the “feel” of the holiday and historical precedent in American attitudes towards taxation. Then they go all tangential talking about the ironies of safety and anarchy on the modern highway. And other stuff. Anzo keeps changing the subject and Brave keeps interrupting. Jerks.
